Rendering is the process of applying solid plaster or cement to the exterior of a building to achieve a smoother, more modern look. Rendering is carried out by qualified plasterers and is widely popular in European homes as well as homes in Melbourne and other parts of Australia.

How is rendering done?

Lime, sand and cement are mixed together with pigments of your choice, bonding agents and other additives to prevent the mixture from drying out too quickly. Using a trowel, the plasterer then applies the mixture to your wall one coat at a time to ensure even drying. Depending on the desired surface texture, brushes, sponges and other accessories may also be used. Traditional rendering plasters will usually take up to 28 days to set although advanced acrylic based mixtures can bring the time down to 24 hours.
